Squish!
Mike and I headed back home for the weekend, and had a wonderful time visiting with the London crew, all of whom I have been missing acutely, and some of whom I have not seen in ages (you know who you are!). While there, I made use of Mom's washing machine to properly felt my fuzzyfeet. I had tried hand felting in the kitchen sink, but after 20 minutes of vigorous scrubbing in very hot soapy water and no visible results, I handed things over to Mike, who also tried for 20 mins. After that, when the wool looked just slightly matted (and still humongous!) we relented. Anyhoo, a quick trip through the washing machine, and my fuzzy feet were a much more managable size. I wore them for an hour or so to shape them (which was an unpleasant experience, since it was rather chilly on Saturday morning) et voila!

Posing with a newly picked group of swan neck gourds.

My fuzzy feet even met some cousins: the heavy-duty socks I knit for Dad last Christmas.

Note that Dad is wearing one inside out. I pointed it out to him. He said it worked just as well that way. Also note that this picture was taken on the driveway. I have to keep these things in mind when I knit for my father. Durability and washability are important.

And I leave you with this: the squash are ready!

More on York to come!

Pretty slippers! And you must be so happy to see that your dad loves his socks.
It's always nice to see such rustic scenes. I took a bunch of pictures of knitting tonight but I lack good scenes in the apartment.

I haven't yet found a suitable place for taking pictures here in the city. I miss my balcony!'

Yeah, Dad is almost always wearing one of his two pairs when I see him. I will make him more for Christmas.

very nice!

i went on a trip to a very cool yarn shop in St. John's called "Wool Trends" with my mom yesterday (she knits beautifully; i'm still learning) and there were bags on display which were felted like your fuzzyfeat. gorgeous!

Felting is a great way to knit something fast on huge needles, and it doesn't matter if you knit neatly, because all the definition is lost in the felted fuzz. If you could handle the wool, I would highly recommend it.

I love visiting foreign yarn stores, when I get to St. John's (someday) I will check that one out.

How is your knitting going? I would love to see a picture.

my knitting is going... alright. as i think i mentioned before, my mother took my scarf apart several times and i finally got fed up. but i still have it cast on, so i'm going to begin anew. once there is progress, there will be pictures!

also, gmail likes to read my mail and give me appropriate links. when i read your comment this morning, it gave me this: http://www.blacksheepbags.com/index.html - pretty bags! i might give felting a try once i finish my scarf - which i will finish!!

I was meeting the same knitter in London that you were the other weekend! You can read about it at http://knittingonthecam.blogspot.com/2006/09/learning-new-things.html
I, too, am a knitting classicist, though it's been years since I've really been a classicist... Maybe we could check out the lys and a coffee shop.

Ah! We simultaneously commented. I left a comment on that very post less than an hour ago. I was the tardy knitter :)

Once a classicist, always a classicist. And I would love to meet up. Which is your lys here?
